This Christmas looked so different than what I anticipated. I was looking forward to pretending it was cold outside and cuddling up to a cheesy movie. I prepared for a feast and a month-long binge on cookies. I dreamed of family time spent together.
But God had other plans. Christmas changed and instead of being a bright spot, I found the joy of the season gone. I had to search for ways to carve time for my kids to celebrate. Instead of basking in two weeks vacation with Eric, we passed each other to tag team different responsibilities.
God had other plans. My weary heart heard God's truth in a new way and His love and promises as a haven. My sister was in town from Wisconsin. I got precious time with just the two of us and my kids got undivided attention from their Aunt! Instead of relaxing with Eric, I experienced his love and care for me.
It wasn't the Christmas I looked forward to but it was a blessing all the same. And I will remember this lesson: Christ came as a Savior, my Savior, not to make everything easy and pretty as a Christmas card but to minister to those who cry out to Him. The only way I know to respond is to worship Him and praise His faithfulness.
This whole year has been one twist and turn after another. Challenges and blessings, lows and highs, worry and faith. But through all, Christ is King! May 2021 bring you closer to God and closer to each other...and just maybe a portion of solace.
