"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)
These verses in 1 Thessalonians are a constant reminder to me of what is important in life. The art of thanksgiving, similar to the day we celebrate, is not dependent on my feelings or circumstances. Every day, every moment, life gives me opportunities for something new to complain about, stress over, or worry upon. Current events, politics, and Facebook are fleeting yet they can sometimes consume me. Those very same things should also be cause for thanksgiving. These verses have a way of pulling me back to that reality.
Someone recently reminded me that the entire span of the Earths existence (whether you believe that to be thousands of years or billions) is but a blip on the radar of all eternity. We are but a twinkle in the eyes of God. That very same God cares deeply for and loves beyond measure each one of us. It is because of that love that we are so thankful. That is also why we do what we do here at TECH, so that more may come to know the deep love of Christ.
