Hebrews 12: 1-2
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
I am a huge fan of the Olympics. I love watching these athletes excel with power, precision, and persistence cultivated over years of hard work. All this culminates in a few mere minutes, maybe even seconds, of their life. I wonder at their dedication.
I thought next about my life, my race. I wondered if the hard work I've done will have a similar capstone event. I wondered if my dedication will be enough, if my passion will drive me that extra bit so when the time comes I can perform with excellence.
Then I remembered, God is the one working! He is the victor. What a sweet, humbling, comforting thought!
Of course that doesn't mean that I sit on my heels but that my race isn't about results and measured outcomes. But a heart seeking God.
