In our family, the Christmas season is one of our favorite times of year. It is something we look forward to, that we anticipate for 11 months. While I enjoy the festivities - the family traditions, the parties, the music, the giving of gifts - these are not the reasons we eagerly wait for December. For us, it is reminder of the Light that has come into the darkness of this world. It is the one time of year that we corporately reflect upon the wonder of the ineffable God born as a baby boy.
A friend recently said that the birth of Jesus is one of the most anticipated events in the history of our world. Scattered all through the history of Israel are prophecies looking forward to the advent of the Messiah. All creation held its breath in anticipation of His arrival. While our modern celebrations do well to celebrate the arrival, it seems few and far between that we celebrate the fullness of time, of God orchestrating events which culminate in a manager in a tumble down stable in the dusty town of Bethlehem.
It is for this reason our favorite Christmas album is "Behold the Lamb of God" by Andrew Peterson. This amazing album begins telling the story of Jesus with Moses and the Israelite exodus from Egypt. It is truly an amazing audible and worshipful experience. Every year since its release, Andrew Peterson and a crew of exceptionally talented musicians have toured this album during the Christmas season. And this year, thanks to the internet, they are offering a live stream of a performance! Having seen the show live, it is a moving and worshipful time. If you are interested, we would recommend you check out the live stream (link below) or find a concert near you. We hope it brightens your Christmas spirit.
